I have over 15 years as mental health practitioner with extensive experience in providing developmental, psychosocial interventions, and counselling for individuals and families with comorbidities issues. I am passionate in journeying alongside individuals and constantly seek to be equipped to provide a safe place for psychological and emotional support to people who are going through life’s challenges.
I began my career in community work in 2005 primarily in the area of supporting parents affected by disabilities by providing early intervention and employment support, resource development, counselling and case management. In the area of my work, I applied the principles of positive behavioral strategies in managing children and young adults who are commonly diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD), Attention Deficit Hyperactive Disorder (ADHD), learning difficulties and with behavioral challenges. The foundation of my knowledge and understanding in the field of Psychology enabled me to enrich these children reaching to their fullest potential by using the strength-based and behavior modification approaches.
The learning curve became steeper in the past decade, as I journeyed alongside individuals and families affected by substance used, imprisonment, displacement, and sexual & gender-based violence. I am inspired and enriched by the transformational life stories, especially when families experienced the redefined relationships and are equipped with better coping mechanisms within the family as well as in the community. In the course of the empowering journey, I have attained skills set in the area of Systemic, Mindfulness-based and Narrative approach.
Besides counselling, I have been actively involved in facilitating training for parents and educators as I strongly believe that they need to be trained with practical knowledge in the principles of behavior management and communication skills to understand and support their children in their growth. Along my career in the area of mental health services, I have developed an array of experiences in conducting awareness programs in promoting and understanding mental health wellness on various topics ranging from parenting, relationship, work life integration, stress management at different settings.
