ABOUT WAI LUEN
Hi all, I am Wai Luen.
I am a licensed and registered counselor who had experience working with teenagers, young adults, working adult and also the elderly. He sees counselling as a process to help clients explore and learn about themselves.
I have experience of working with NGOs of Malaysian Mental Health Association (MMHA) and PTF Community Health Care Clinic (PTF CHCC). In MMHA, I helped clients diagnosed with mental health disorders in ways such as teaching them coping styles, listening to them and act as a companion in their journey of getting better. In PTF CHCC, I worked with client of various sexuality who were affected by psychosocial issues such as stress in life, relationships and family matters. He also helped in spreading awareness on sexual health by participating in roadshows organized by PTF CHCC, in collaboration with other organizations.
What inspired my choice to be a counselor is that I was once troubled by mental health issue when I was an adolescent, and those days are my darkest days. From that experience, I developed an interest in psychology and wanted to help spread awareness on mental health. I believe mental health is essential to have a satisfying life. My passion for now is doing counseling, journeying with clients. The love of my life are my family, my partner, chocolate and matcha. My life goal would be to provide my humble service to people who are in need, through my skills and profession. I am also a nature person, especially fond of seaside, mountains and forests.

APPROACH
“
Explore psychological and social aspects of clients such as understanding thought patterns, emotions as well as influences of social circle (family, friends etc). Does psychoeducation to help client understand their psychological well-being. Explore underlying issues that clients may have such as trauma, grief, attachment issue etc. My theoretical approaches are of Cognitive-Behavioral therapy and Family therapy.
